If filmmaker Mel Gibson imagined that this extended detailing of sadism would somehow be inspirational, he needs to be taken off his biblical steroids. Rarely have the scriptures been the source of such a laborious and desensitizing concentration on torture.

Story telling fails, but the production values are top-notch.
