"Bright Young Things"
These bright, young things are young but hardly bright. And, this is a
drawing room comedy with plenty of drawing rooms but oh so feeble a comedy.
It's a frothy mess with agonizingly careless renderings of human behavior,
even that of the idle rich. The cutesy style affected by writer-director
Stephen Fry, an actor of effete parts, is adapted from a 1930 Evelyn Waugh
novel. Its frisky but flimsy content wouldn't play well in an
earlier century. Emily Mortimer's natural beauty is the only thing that's
remotely genuine.
